Thank you for taking time to visit our website.

The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy is a dynamic health sciences school with a talented and internationally-recognized academic faculty supporting clinical and basic scientific research as well as professional pharmacy training. We have a diverse mix of graduate, professional students and faculty with comprehensive expertise in the various scientific, socio-economic, technological, pharmacotherapeutic, clinical and practice aspects of the pharmacy profession. Our fully accredited six-year professional degree program leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy prepares graduates for fulfilling and rewarding careers in a variety of sub-specializations of pharmacy including:

  • community chain pharmacy,
  • independent pharmacy ownership,
  • hospital and nursing home pharmacy,
  • the practice of pharmacy in managed care settings and clinical care centers,
  • a rich variety of careers within the biopharmaceutical industry,
  • careers in governmental agencies such as the FDA,
  • academia and independent research institutes

In addition, selected students with at least two years of prior college-level coursework may apply to complete our professional degree program in just four academic years.

Graduates of our School are well positioned to pursue advanced degrees in other areas such as law, basic research, medicine, public health, and business. A full year of intense, diverse professional practice experiences and externships in both patient care settings and the pharmaceutical industry are especially helpful in preparing our students to compete effectively for the best careers in pharmacy and related areas, and to qualify for pharmacy licensure in New Jersey and other states.

A research intensive honors program is available for those students who anticipate pursuing careers in specialized research. In addition, we also offer M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, Toxicology and related areas of the biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences.

The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy also has developed a robust and unique Institute for Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowships that is the largest program of its kind in the United States. This program has provided graduates from Doctor of Pharmacy programs throughout the nation with the opportunity of specialized training in sectors of the pharmaceutical industry in New Jersey. Over the past 20 years, the program has grown exponentially to include 13 different companies, including several of the top ten global companies, within the pharmaceutical industry and related medical communications business. Graduates of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program exemplify our commitment to opportunity and excellence that we strive to instill in all of our pharmacy graduates.

We welcome inquiries and visits from alumni, interested potential students and their parents, and others who wish to become involved in the projects and educational programs of our School. Our School has a rich and proud history of service to New Jersey, extending over a period of more than 115 years. As we proudly say, "In New Jersey, it's Rutgers for Pharmacy."

We invite you to get to know us better.
