We took several trips outside of Nairobi's general area. One was to Lamu Island, which was spectacular:

Shela village

Lamu town.

My wife tries to blend into the scenary.

We also took a dhow trip to see the abandoned city of Takwa, on Manda Island.

Our captain guides us through the mangroves.

The entrance to Takwa island, accessible only by rowboat.

All the structures in Takwa were built from coral.

Takwa was abandoned in the late 17th century.
