Programs - Academic Programs

Staff Contact - Carlos Fernandez, Director

Central to the CLAC's mission is to foster academic excellence beyond the classroom and strengthen the connection between academic study, experiential learning, and creativity. Through the development of co-curricular and extracurricular events that feature Latino and Latin American arts and culture, the CLAC promotes awareness, appreciation, and understanding of Latino heritage. Our programs seek to engage students, faculty, staff, artists, scholars, and tradition bearers in a process of exploration of what it means to be Latino in the United States and throughout the world.

Our monthly Diálogos (Dialogues) with faculty provide opportunities for the RU community to learn about a wide-variety of topics ranging from Latino and Latin American history to gender studies to music. Our Latino Artist series features artist performances and short-term residencies, as well as film presentations and exhibitions. In addition, the CLAC promotes discussion and networking through the organization of panels, symposia, and conferences. Finally, through the development of interdisciplinary projects that involve students, researchers, scholars, and artists, the CLAC seeks to provide a challenging, yet supportive intellectual environment that encourages students’ academic and professional growth.
