Who cares? If we are "demoted to a second tier in the Anglican communion" -- who cares? It reminds me of middle school when tears were shed over who was Angie Hagin's best, best friend and who was her third best friend. In the end, no one kept up with Angie after school anyway. I think being at "the table" at Lambeth would be wonderful, but in reality if we aren't we will still offer our resources to educate those people in Africa who think we aren't quite Christian. In the end we will still be connected to our brothers and sisters across the world in the parish to parish and diocese to diocese relationships that we have all worked so hard to cultivate. While I think the Anglican communion is a splendid and glorious thing, I also believe no one -- not the Archbishop of Canterbury or any African primate -- can say who is in or out. The truth is that we are a family. We didn't choose them and they didn't choose us. We were birthed from the same set of DNA and as in any family, some of us will feel especially connected to one another and others will feel threatened by members of the family. They can't "vote" us out of the family, but they can choose not to visit us. In the end, we need to focus on who we are and not be bound by what they define us to be. We need to do our work and focus on our mission and ministry and let them focus on theirs. Let's not make the family reunion into an idol, it's supposed to be a party.
