Leadership Opportunities

True leadership comes from experience. As a member of the Greek community, you'll find tremendous opportunities that will give you the experience to become an effective leader.Fraternities and sororities are self-governing, giving members numerous leadership possibilities.


Members:

serve as chapter officers and on Greek community-wide governing councils
lead and get involved as members of non-Greek campus organizations
improve organizational skills and time management

 
Leadership opportunities offered throughout the year:
Panhellenic Council Executive Board and Cabinet positions - The Panhellenic Council is the governing body of the six NPC sororities at Rutgers. Elections to the Panhellenic executive board and cabinet take place each April.
Pan-Hellenic Council (RPHC) Executive Board positions - The RPHC is the governing body of the 19 African-American, Latino/a, Multi-cultural and Asian fraternities and sororities. Elections to the RPHC executive board take place each April.
Interfraternity Council (IFC) Executive Board positions - The IFC is the governing body of the 23 NIC men’s fraternities. Elections to the IFC executive board and cabinet take place each April.
Chapter Executive Board positions - Every chapter is charged with electing a group of students to serve as chapter leaders. Members have the opportunity to serve in a variety of elected positions such as president, treasurer, scholarship chair, service chair or recruitment chair.
Dance Marathon - The Dance Marathon is a yearlong project that raises awareness and funds for the Institute for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders. Students can become involved in the Dance Marathon by interviewing for a spot on the 15 member Steering Committee, the Captain staff, registering to dance or volunteer. Applications can be found on the Dance Marathon web site (www.marathon.rutgers.edu).
Executive Officer Academy - Held at the beginning of each semester, the Executive Officer Academy is a training day, designed to supplement the education that has already been provided by the chapter advisory team. Presidents, Vice Presidents, New Member Educators and Social Chairmen attend a series of educational sessions conducted by student leaders and university staff members.
Greek 101 - A four week education series for the newest members of the Greek community. All new members attend seminars designed to enhance the quality of their new member experience.
Northeast Greek Leadership Association Annual Conference - A 3 day program for Greek Council (IFC, Panhel, NPHC & GIB) officers in the northeast. Conference participants participate in both the Values Institute as well as a host of general education sessions.
Undergradaute Inter-Fraternity Institute - A 5-day national Greek leadership academy in Indianapolis, held throughout the summer, this is the premiere Greek Leadership Academy in the country. RU selects several outstanding Greek leaders to attend each summer. In addition, many chapters send their chapter presidents to this program also. Recruitment Boot Camp - This intense 3 day program teaches chapters how to recruit new members with values. The governing associations select several Greek leaders to attend this program during the summer.
