Use these subject headings when looking for books in IRIS, the Rutgers Libraries Catalog
These are rather broad headings, however. You may wish to look for the subheading "history, miliary" under other terms, or look under specific conflicts or wars. Since these headings can be somewhat complex a keyword (choose "search everything" in IRIS) might be more useful.
If you wish to simply browse the stacks, military science books have a call number starting with "U" and naval science books have a call number starting with "V."
Be aware that items at the Alexander Library in New Brunswick purchased before c. 1970 and not checked out since then are not included in IRIS. We have a copy of their old card catalog from c. 1970 on microfilm. Ask at the Reference Desk for more information.
The library has several journal indexes available. The best index for you will depend on your topic. Some of the general indexes that are likely to be relevant are:
There are a number of items in the government documents collection which might be of interest. At present federal government documents are not cataloged. However, you may wish to browse those items produced by the Department of Defense. Their documents number starts with "D." Some of these documents have orange stickers on the spine and streamers in the books. This is part of a project to identify documents to be classified and put in the regular collection. If possible don't disturb the stickers or streamers.
