How are decisions for BHEC made? |
We encourage each parent do what she/he can to serve or contribute (plan field trips, teach or be an assistant, help set-up or clean-up at group meetings, etc.). BHEC operates on the basis of two models:31 August 2006
- Consensus Model:
- This model requires that we actively listen to one another in a spirit of cooperation and love. We try to discern together what is best for the group as a whole. We'll practice mutual submission as outlined in Ephesians 5:21 and 1 Peter 5:5, understanding that in a multitude of counselors there is safety and establishment (Proverbs 11:14, 15:22 and 24:6). This model is used when decisions have the potential to affect the entire group on issues that relate directly to our goals.
- Teacher-led Model:
- This model has the teacher or activity planner coordinate the details (date, time, location, purpose, and eligibility issues) and present her proposal to the group. The teacher or coordinator must agree with the tenets as outlined in the Apostles' Creed. Individuals may then elect to participate if they desire. This model is appropriate for general Christian-based or homeschooling-focused activities, including classes, clubs, and field trips.
