Assignments
and Grading Procedures
The work for
the semester will fall into three categories:
- Technical
Writing Basics will help you think about audience, and the process
and style aspects of technical writing. These assignments will be
made from the textbook. Check the sample syllabus to see specific
details.
- Technical
Writing Techniques will give you chance to learn key elements of form
and content that are typically found in short, medium, and long technical
writings. These assignments will also be taken from the text.
- Technical
Writing Applications will give you chance to apply the basics and
techniques as you develop a variety of technical writing documents.
The text will form the basis for these assignments, but specific details
will be provided by the class instructor.
Each assignment
has been given a designated number of points to be earned (Suggested
values are shown in Table 1 below). The assigned values reflect the
complexity of the tasks. Points earned will be converted to percentages
and then to letter grades (Table 2 shows the letter grade ranges for
percentages). Of course, individual instructors are free to change the
suggested point values and/or grade ranges, but the tables give a general
sense as to how the course work might be evaluated.
