Midterm Prototype

The goal her is to revise your earlier drafts and style sheet, and put everything together into a working prototype of your Final Project. Note that grading for the Midterm is one half grade easier than for the Final, so "B" level work on the Midterm would get a "C+" on the Final, etc. Grading will focus on written content quality, usable design, and success with CSS.

Please remember to revise your content in response to the feedback you've received on your drafts, check your work against the Midterm Checklist — and DO NOT PLAGIARIZE!

Requirements

1. Site Plans Memo: please write one single-spaced page detailing your Final Project. Include the following:

  • Descriptions of 2 potential users. For each user please give a name and describe in 3-4 sentences: age, location, interests, background; what dissatisfies them at other sites related to your topic; 2 things they're going to do with info from your site.
  • Site comparisons. Give URLs of the 2 best sites related to yours and describe (a) their strengths, that is, why in particular your users would visit these sites, and (b) why users would visit your site instead.
  • Descriptions of 3 subpages you could build beyond the Links, Feature, and Tutorial — in particular, what might you do for the Visual?

2. Online content — saved to "mid" folder in your Eden "425" folder:

  • Homepage with working links to your Links, Feature, and Tutorial pages, plus (not necessarily functioning) links to other pages your site will eventually include — see the Homepage assignment for its basic requirements.
  • Revised Links and Feature pages (see those assignments for basic requirements) — if you've changed your Project since you drafted those pages, you'll have to remake them.
  • A rough draft of your Tutorial page (100 words) — remember that this page might be combined with the Visual page assignment.

3. Bibliography. Please complete an MLA style Works Cited documenting your sources for all borrowed text, ideas, and images in your site — and review Plagiarism. Turn this in with your Site Plans Memo and screenshots as detailed below.

4. On-paper content — please have the following stapled together by the start of class on the day the Midterm is due:

  • Screenshots of the first screen of your Homepage, Links, and Feature.
  • Works Cited.
  • Site Plans Memo — feel free to add any questions or concerns about which you'd like feedback.
