Although the new year 2000 received much attention as the millennium, it was also the year of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac (beginning on February 5th). Aki Beam thus created this small commemorative book. Watch as the dragon massacres the other Chinese zodiacal creatures in order: Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Chicken, Dog and Pig. It is notable that Aki Beam was born in the year of the mouse, and it is this creature who first meets the dragon’s teeth.

This work represents a departure from the traditional alphabet series. For this purpose, Aki Beam created a new organization within SKRE MNSTR press: the zodiac division.

A note on the structure: Aki Beam was inspired to produce this work by a sample paper swatch she had picked up at her local art shop which seemed to lend itself to the annual progression. The different paper samples increase in size. Each animal is drawn on a separate page and together the pages form the complete image of the ravenous dragon.
