The African Studies Association was founded in 1957 as a
non-profit organization open to all individuals and institutions interested
in African affairs. Its mission is to bring together people with a scholarly
and professional interest in Africa. The ASA
also provides information and support services to the Africanist community.
Three publications are currently produced annually: ASA News, African
Studies Review, and History in Africa. With approximately 2,200
individual and institutional members, the ASA is the leading North American
organization that promotes African studies. The ASA is hosted by Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey in New
Brunswick, New Jersey.

2007 Call for Proposals – Now Closed
Proposals were due by February
28, 2007 and had to be submitted through ASA ONLINE beginning in January.
Individuals who reside in Africa were mailed
a hard copy of the Call for Proposals and had the option to submit a proposal
online, by fax, or by mail.
$50 for the 50th – NEW
The African Studies Association is celebrating the 50th
anniversary of its founding in 2007. Help us to grow and prosper for the next
50 years and beyond. We are asking everyone to make a $50 contribution to our
50th Anniversaries Endowment today!

50th Annual Meeting
The
ASA will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding during the 50th
Annual Meeting, which will be held in New York, New York, October 18-21, 2007 at the
Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers. The ASA was founded in the
Roosevelt Hotel in New York, New York, March 22-24, 1957. Watch
