Annual Meeting Committee

  • Chaired by the Vice President
  • Reviews Annual Meeting policies
  • Selects Program Committee Chairs for future Annual Meetings
  • Selects LAC Chairs for future Annual Meetings
  • Recommends sites for future Annual Meetings

 

Development Committee

  • Chaired by a Board member
  • Raises money for the Association

 

Electronic Technology Committee

  • Chaired by a Board member
  • Makes recommendations to the Board about the ASA ONLINE system
  • Makes recommendations to the Board about issues relating to the ASA website

 

Ethics Committee

  • Chaired by the Past President
  • Reviews ethics guidelines
  • Reviews reports of ethics violations

 

Executive Committee

  • Chaired by the President
  • Includes the Vice President, Past President, and Treasurer (ex officio)
  • Responsible for making decisions on behalf of the entire Board in the intervals between the biannual Board meetings

 

Finance Committee

  • Chaired by a Board member
  • Includes the Treasurer (ex officio)
  • Oversees the finances of the Association

 

Investment Committee

  • Chaired by the President
  • Includes the Treasurer (ex officio)
  • Oversees the ASA investment portfolio

 

Nominations and Membership Committee

  • Chaired by the Vice President
  • Makes recommendations for each year's election slate
  • Reviews policies related to membership

 

Personnel Committee

  • Chaired by the Past President
  • Conducts annual evaluations of the Executive Director

 

Prize Committee

  • Chaired by the Past President
  • Committee of the Whole as per the Fall 2003 Board Meeting
  • Reviews recommendations for the Association’s prizes and awards
  • Recommends committee members for the Association’s prize and award committees

 

Publications Committee

  • Chaired by the Past President
  • Includes editors of ASA journals, and a liaison from the Africana Librarians Council
  • Oversees member publications and African Studies Association Press activities
