FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Attention: Family Math TeachersFamily Math for Young Children and Family Math: The Middle School YearsIt's never too early to begin nurturing a childs discovery of math. Family Math teachers have two new resources available: Family Math for Young Children: Comparing and Family Math: The Middle School Years. These anxiously awaited books build on the success of the ever popular Family Math book that has served as a rich resource Family Math teachers throughout the state. In Family Math for Young Children: Comparing, families use geometry, number sense, and graphs as they sort stamps, produce puzzles, build mobiles, play with shadows, discuss patterns, and observe the moon and stars. The explorations are interactive and feature the concepts of comparing, counting, measuring, estimation, and sorting. Parents will learn insightful ways to encourage their child's enthusiasm for mathematics. Targets grades K-3. Family Math: The Middle School Years is designed for parents and teachers of children ten to fourteen years old. This book is filled with fun, instructive, and nonthreatening activities that families enjoy together. Using algebraic thinking and number sense, this book contains provocative investigations - such as Fraction Calculator Explorations, Maya Mathematics, Four-Sock Drawers, and Math Behind the Trick - that captivate older students. The parent advocacy chapters inform parents of the important decisions they need to make about middle school math courses. The book also contains valuable information on how to help prepare middle school students for advanced high school and college mathematics. Targets grades 5-8. Both books are available for Family Math teachers from the Center for Family Involvement in Schools at Rutgers University. Costs:
