GSE Non- Degree Teacher of Chinese Certification Program
GSE Non- Degree Teacher of Chinese Certification Program
THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW JERSEY
I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Chinese certification program is designed for individuals who possess a Certificate of Eligibility in Chinese language and who wish to receive a standard certification to teach Chinese in a K-12 public school setting. The program consists of 19 credits and does not, by itself, lead to an academic degree. Candidates will receive a standard Chinese certification upon successful completion of the 19 credits and upon recommendation by their school district. All 19 credits in the program must be completed at Rutgers University. No transfer credits will be accepted.
Students admitted to this Non-Degree program may apply to the Ed.M. program in Language Education, prior to completing 12 credits. It is essential to apply early because taking the courses does not guarantee acceptance to the Master’s program.
II.APPLICATION DEADLINES AND ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION FOR NON-DEGREE PROGRAM
Applicants must complete a Non-Degree Teacher of Chinese Certification Program application form, available here.
Along with the application, the applicant must submit the following credentials:
• A photocopy of a New Jersey Instructional Certificate of Eligibility.
• A photocopy of your official academic transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies (please include an evaluation of these transcripts if the studies were completed outside of the United States).
All documents should be sent to:
Office of Academic Services
Graduate School of Education, Room 110
10 Seminary Place
New Brunswick, NJ 08901
Students are expected to maintain a “B” or better average as a non-degree student in the Teacher of Chinese Certification Program.
After completing all of the required courses in the program, students should contact the Office of Academic Services at the GSE to notify them. GSE personnel will then notify the New Jersey Department of Education that all coursework has successfully been completed.
