Rutgers-in-Washington Sponsored by: Rutgers University Office of Federal Relations and Career Services Established in 2000, Rutgers-in-Washington (RIW) is designed to enhance the experience of Rutgers students interning and living in the Washington DC area for the summer. Simply put, Rutgers in Washington is an opportunity for students to meet other interns, network with prominent Rutgers alumni, and explore DC.RIW events engage students socially, culturally, and professionally and truly run the gamut of uniquely DC experiences. Past speakers have included Congressman Frank Pallone, former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's Chief of Staff and proud Rutgers alum, Sue McCue. Past events have included law career panels, behind the scenes tours of the Air & Space Museum, the US Capitol building, and the Library of Congress, in addition to Washington Nationals baseball games, intercollegiate social events, and informal dinners with other Rutgers interns. Scheduled events are as diverse as the interests of the participants. While the RIW program does not place students in internship positions, Career Services can assist you in your internship search. To get started, schedule an appointment with a counselor at Career Services to discuss your internship search and career goals. The Career Services website has numerous career-related links that can aid you in the internship search process. When you join the Rutgers in Washington listserv (e-mail ruwash@rutgers.edu to do so), you will get updates on specific internship opportunities in addition to up-to-date information on upcoming RIW events. To figure out how to make a summer in DC work for you, browse the internship and housing opportunities throughout the website or contact a Career Services. For more information, e-mail the RIW Program Coordinator at ruwash@rutgers.edu.
Alumni are an integral part of the RIW program and RIW is always looking for potential participants, intern hosts, and speakers in the DC area. If you are a Rutgers alum and would like to learn more about the ways you can become involved with RIW, we invite you to e-mail us at ruwash@rutgers.edu.
