Corporate Jobs and Internships in the DC Area

The Department of Employment Service contains a directory of the top 200 employers in DC with a broad representation of District-based industries, including social services, department stores, restaurants, hotels, educational institutions, construction firms, financial institutions, and membership organizations. Go to http://does.dc.gov/ for additional information.

For a list of the fastest growing private companies in DC, go to http://dc.about.com/od/jobs/a/FastGrowCo.htm.

Networking

Go to the Alumni Career Network – Search page. Enter your school password, "henry." Click on "Search by Location." Enter "Virginia" and "Maryland." You will see some alumni who are working for the federal government.

Personal Networking – Develop a list of people you know who may have a direct or indirect relationship to the federal government. Make contact and ask for referrals or leads.



Your Senator or Congress Representative

Contact your U.S. senator or congressman and ask about internship opportunities either in D.C. or his or her New Jersey office. Start with your senator's or congressman's website. If you don't know your congressman, go to U.S. House of Representatives – Office of the Clerk website. Scroll down to "New Jersey." Once you have your congressman's name, Google him or her to arrive at the website.

Attend Rutgers career days from September to May. US government agencies are most prominent at our Government and Nonprofit Career Day in April. Government agencies also attend:

  • January New Jersey Collegiate Career Day
  • February Internship Career Day
  • March Big East Career Fair (NYC)
  • May New Jersey Collegiate Career Day
