Internship & Co-op Information Have you given thought to what you will be doing after you graduate? It’s a very competitive market so if you plan to enter the work force, you should add a few out of classroom experiences such as study abroad, research, community service and internships to complement your academic coursework. A common theme in any entry level job search is the difficulty in finding a first position without experience. It’s a “catch 22” that you’ve no doubt heard: you can’t get a job without experience, and you can’t get experience without a job. When the time comes for you to graduate, an internship or co-op could be your key to bridging that gap. Internships = Experiential Learning What is Experiential Learning? Experiential learning enables students to learn in practical ways by doing concrete things, while reflecting on and analyzing these experiences. It allows students to learn things not taught in conventional curricula, and it narrows the gap between the world of the university and the world of work. Various experiences can help students confirm or choose a major, prepare for graduate or professional study, and find a job by giving them first-hand experience in a particular field of interest. These experiences are commonly known as the following: study abroad, internships, co-ops, and undergraduate research, all of which complement students’ academic experience. Are you unsure of how to get started with your internship search? Take some time to view the All About Internships. (webinar hyperlink to be inserted)
