Course Policy

1. Students are expected to attend all scheduled lectures and to arrive on time and remain for the entire period. It is expected that students will show courtesy to both their fellow students and the Lecturer by refraining from chatter while class is in progress.

2. Final grades for the course will be a sum of points from the following assessments: Hourly Exam I = 100 total points; Hourly Exam II = 100; Final Exam (Comprehensive) = 300 points; Writing Assignment = 200; Web Page Assignemnt = 100; TOTAL POINTS FOR FINAL COURSE GRADE = 800. Four optional Extra Credit Assignments may also be completed and will be worth 10 points each. Scores for these will be added to studentsí individual score after the final grade distribution for the course has been completed. All exams will be based on lecture material, including those of Guest Lecturers.

3. The Writing Assignment (and Extra Credit work) must be handed in on time. They are due in class on the dates given. If you miss class they must be turned in at the Teaching Excellence Center (116 College Ave) where they will be stamped with the date. Late work will be penalized 20 points per day late (including weekends). You should keep a copy of all work you hand in. Any questions regarding grading must be submitted in writing, with the assignment, to Dr. Devanas within 1 week of its return to the student.

4. Students who do not achieve a satisfactory result in the first Hourly Exam will be given a warning grade at that time.

5. All students are expected to take the exams at the designated times. You may not reschedule an exam because you have another exam on the same day. If an hourly exam is missed, a grade of zero will be assigned unless a VALID WRITTEN excuse is presented to Dr. Devanas. Legitimate excuses include: Dean's notes, serious illness (doctor's excuse required), death in your immediate family, if you are an athlete attending an out of town game (NOT practice), or if you are observing a religious holiday. If you know you have a legitimate conflict you must notify Dr. Devanas at least 1 week in advance of the scheduled exam date. If you miss an exam because of serious illness you must notify Dr. Devanas within 24 hours.

6. The Hourly Exams are based on the chapters given in the Schedule of Lectures. Although they are not strictly accumulative, much of the material tested in the second hourly is dependent on information in the early part of the course so make sure you study and understand all the class material. The Hourly Exams will be graded and returned 1 week after the exam was taken. If a mathematical or machine grading error has been made, it must be reported to me within 1 week of the date the exams are returned. No corrections will be made after this time. No credit will be given for improperly filled out answer sheets. Any questions regarding the correct answer for a particular test question must be put in writing, justifying the claim to additional credit, and returned with the question booklet and answer sheet to me within 1 week of the exam being returned to the student. No corrections will be made after this time.

7. The Final Exam is comprehensive and will not be returned to the student. No student will be admitted to the Final Exam once any student has completed the exam and left the exam room. Only students with a legitimate conflict will be allowed to take a make-up exam. Except in the case of sudden and serious illness, you must notify Dr. Devanas as soon as possible.

8. It is YOUR responsibility to arrange to make-up any missed exams within the prescribed period given in the course policy.

9. All students should read and adhere to the Rutgers University Policy concerning academic honesty. Any suspected cheating on exams will be reported directly to the studentís College Dean. All work turned in MUST be the studentís own work (Your Name = Your Work). If you consult, quote or refer to any published work or opinion of another individual, it must be cited.

10. Any students with disabilities should see Dr. Devanas about accommodations that are necessary for your learning needs.

11. It is strongly recommended that you attend the Office Hours of Dr. Devanas throughout the semester to clear up any problems with the course work as they arise. If you cannot attend the scheduled Office Hours you may make an appointment by calling the Teaching Excellence Center (932-7466). Review sessions will be held before each exam, time and place will be announced in class. If you have any questions with regard to this course, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Devanas for help .
