Located at the
Graduate School of Applied and
Professional Psychology (GSAPP), the Psychological Clinic is part
of the Center for Applied Psychology. The Clinic delivers psychotherapeutic
and psychoeducational services, provided by advanced doctoral students under the
supervision of faculty and clinical supervisors. The Clinic occupies a large part of
the second floor of the GSAPP, in the new Psychology building.
We are located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, across the river
from New Brunswick, NJ. The Clinic is on a bus stop serviced by the free intercampus bus
line running throughout the New Brunswick / Piscataway area. We are open from 9 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
Services:
Because we are part of a major research university, our faculty,
supervisors, and student therapists employ the
latest and most helpful methods of therapy. We are fortunate to have experts in most
all of the major orientations
and models of intervention, and our students are supervised in the delivery of these
services.
There are a number of other specialized research-based therapy clinics associated with
GSAPP. These provide therapeutic services for clients with Eating Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, Autism, and Developmental Disabilities.. The Clinic
can also refer clients with such needs to these programs.
We provide assessment and outpatient therapy for children,
adolescents, and adults
with any of the following conditions:
· Anxiety and panic disorders · Depression and mood disorders · Phobias · Marital or
relationship problems
· Parenting problems and/or child behavior management · Children
with developmental disorders
· School refusal · Learning difficulties or disabilities · Attention Deficit Disorder
(with or without hyperactivity)
· Chronic Pain, headache, stress-related medical illnesses
· Family problems, emotional complications of divorce, step-parenting problems, adoption
Modalities of treatment include:
· Cognitive Behavioral Therapy · Family Therapy ·
Contemporary Psychoanalytic Psychotherapies
· Brief Psychodynamic Therapy · Marital/Couples Therapy · Child Play Therapy · Group
Therapy · Biofeedback
Clients:
Our clients are referred from both the Rutgers community and also
the surrounding communities and human
service agencies. We are committed to being helpful to all clients who are
referred to us, but, as a training program, we must reserve the right to decide
which clients will best fit our services and levels of expertise. As such,
we may not accept some clients for treatment here, but will provide referrals to
the appropriate services and levels of care.
Fees and Insurance:
The services offered by the Clinic are provided by
graduate student therapists from our doctoral programs, and because of this many HMO
plans and in-network managed care insurances will not reimburse for our services. As such,
we offer sliding scale
fees.
We are committed to
providing the community with high quality psychological services
at rates that are affordable to all.
Staff:
The Clinic director is
Dr. Donald Morgan,
Psy.D., a full-time director who is also a member of the clinical faculty. We
have a full-time office manager, Suzanne Baranello.
Therapeutic services are arranged by
the Clinic Coordinators, and it is they who provide the initial client phone contacts,
interview and assess potential
clients, communicate with referral sources, and maintain the flow of information and cases.
Our therapists are of many diverse
backgrounds and are sensitive to clients' suffering due to
racism, poverty, exploitation, sexual and physical abuse, and discrimination due to gender
and sexual orientation.
We place great emphasis on empowering clients in our work together, and engaging in a
collaborative therapeutic
relationship, helping each person find his or her way through the difficulties they face.
