SEPTEMBER 2000

Many of our continuing students know the Douglass Project and what we are all about. But to incoming students and students new to the sciences we might be just another programming department. The DP staff felt that one of the best ways to get our message out to the people we serve (You, the students) was to develop a clear and straight forward mission statement.

Printed here for the first time, the Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Math, Science, and Engineering Mission.

The Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Math, Science, and Engineering is dedicated to supporting undergraduate women at Rutgers University and students at the secondary level, who are interested in these disciplines.

The Douglass Project continually develops, coordinates, and evaluates programs to address issues women face in these fields. Our programs enhance educational experiences and provide personal development and leadership opportunities. The Douglass Project encourages students to recognize their abilities and empowers them to attain their goals.

A New Douglass Project for a New Millennium
The Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Math, Science, and Engineering is starting out this millennium with a new look inside and out.

A few of the physical changes that you will see are a new landscaped entrance in the front of the DP offices which provides easier access to our office; the addition of an open Computer Lab for our students use; a student lounge on the second floor, a great place to relax and study between classes; and a brand new logo to correspond with our mission statement.

Along with these physical changes we also have a number of new faces in the office. Heading up the Douglass Project Programs is Dr. Terri Boyer Tillbrook. Terri joined the Douglass Project last November and comes here from the University of Alabama where she was involved in various programs for women. Another new addition is Mirta Tejada who joined the DP staff this past June as Program Coordinator for Project SUPER. Other new additions to our staff are graduate students Christine Cullin who will be assisting in the Undergraduate Outreach Program and Talya Williams who will be assisting in the Rutgers University Women in Neuroscience (RUWINS) programs.

The staff at the Douglass Project would like to extend our wishes for a successful year and we look forward to helping you attain your goals!
