Listed below are some of the current programs and services offered by the Douglass Project. New programs are added each year to accomodate the changing needs and interests of undergraduate students at Rutgers University.

Project SUPER
"Science for Undergraduates: A Program for Excellence in Research."

Project SUPER is an innovative program that engages Douglass College women as well as School of Engineering and College of Pharmacy women who affiliate (reside) at Douglass College in a challenging series of co-curricular activities. This year-long program was originally designed to enrich academic performance and expand knowledge of research and career opportunities in the physical sciences and engineering but now also includes life sciences. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation provided the initial funds for this program which is now supported by Rutgers University.

Project SUPER begins with a five-day residential orientation in the summer prior to your first year that provides interested students with the opportunity to explore options in math, science, and engineering, meet other undergraduate students, visit university labs, participate in hands-on experiments, and learn more about Douglass Project programs. During the academic year, selected Project SUPER students participate in group and faculty mentoring programs, attend workshops on skills and career development, enroll in a credit-bearing course on the research process, and receive a stipend for a research internship. At the beginning of the first semester of their sophomore year, Project SUPER students present the results of their summer research at a poster presentation session sponsored by the Douglass Project.

Students interested in Project SUPER must complete an application. Information on admission requirements and a printable application are available on-line. For any other inquiries, please address questions to the Douglass Project at dougproj@rci.rutgers.edu or (732) 932-9197 ext. 10.

Project SUPER Admission Requirements and Application

Undergraduate Seminar Series
Sponsored in part by Motorola, the Undergraduate Seminar Series runs monthly in the Fall and Spring semesters. The sessions are open to any interested students, and Project SUPER students are required to attend. Seminar optics range from career development workshops run by corporate experts in the science fields, to current issues for women in math, science and engineering. Some sessions will include visits to major corporations in the science and engineering fields.

Douglass Project Outreach Program
Student Partners in Science offers undergraduates the opportunity to engage in community service by leading hands-on science activities. For more details, please see our Outreach and Volunteer Programs page.

Bunting-Cobb Math, Science, and Engineering Residence Hall and Graduate Fellowship Program
Bunting-Cobb provides 100 undergraduate women majoring math, science, and engineering with the opportunity to live in a dedicated residence hall with female graduate students in various relevant disciplines. Graduate students living in Bunting-Cobb provide support to undergraduates by coordinating academic-related programs, organizing peer study sessions, mentoring students with similar academic interests, and helping students to reach their academic goals. Bunting-Cobb includes a science library and its own computer facility, which provides Internet access & is connected directly into the Rutgers University Network. Students who wish to live in Bunting-Cobb must submit an application. For information about the Bunting-Cobb Graduate Fellowship Program, call (908) 932-9197 or send email to dougproj@rci.rutgers.edu. For information about undergraduate applications to Bunting-Cobb, call the Douglass Project Office at (908) 932-9197 or send email to dougproj@rci.rutgers.edu.

Internship/Career Development Information Center
The Douglass Project Resource Center provides undergraduate women with information about university, industrial, and other research opportunities as well as career development opportunities. Through the generosity of Douglass College graduates and foundations, there are a number of summer research stipends available to Douglass students who do summer research in university laboratories. The Resource Center is located in the library of the Bunting-Cobb Residence Hall on the Douglass Campus, and is open to all students.

Peer Study Sessions
Peer Study sessions, led by Bunting-Cobb Graduate Fellows, are designed to help students learn more effectively by encouraging active participation in group discussion of topics covered in class. Subjects usually covered include Biology, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. All students are invited to participate, and no pre-registration is required.

Sessions are held at the Bunting-Cobb Math, Science, and Engineering Residence Hall on the Douglass Campus. Students who do not reside in Bunting-Cobb are also welcome to attend peer study groups. At this time, students should enter at the main entrance of Woodbury. Schedules are updated each semester, and may be obtained at the Douglass Project Office, Room 114, Chemistry Annex.

Assistance in Pre-College Programs
Undergraduates may serve as lab assistants, leaders of small group discussions, panelists, campus guides, and/or resident assistants during Douglass Science Career Exploration Day, the Douglass Science Weekend Academy, or the Douglass Science Institute Program Series, the summer residential component of the pre-college programs. For more information on these programs, see our Pre-College Programs page.
