Barbara Cooper, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of History and Director of the Center for African Studies at Rutgers University
Professor Cooper
is interested in the intersections between culture and political economy,
focusing upon gender, religion, and family life. Her study of a minority
Evangelical Protestant community in majority Muslim Niger, Evangelical
Christians in the Muslim Sahel, will appear with Indiana University
press in 2006. She has recently begun a new project exploring the implications
of discourses and debates around reproduction in the former French colonies
of West Africa, "Birth, Death and Reproduction in the AOF."
