TOM BYRNE

Tom Byrne served two terms as chairman of the Democratic Party in New Jersey from 1994 through mid-1997, a period during which Democratic fortunes began a dramatic recovery. Byrne today runs an investment advisory business with over $100 million under management, and has remained active in politics and with several public interest groups. He is a trustee and treasurer of the Fund for New Jersey, which contributes nearly $5 million annually to key initiatives in education, health care, the environment, civil rights, and other public policy priorities. He is on the board of Excellent Education for Everyone and, of Isles, Inc. in Trenton. He has been board chair of an independent school and vice chair of a regional planning organization.

Byrne has an extensive background in the financial markets. After practicing law with two leading Manhattan law firms, he joined Lehman Brothers in 1986. He authored a book on equity markets, served on the staff of the Brady Task Force, which reported to President Reagan after the 1987 stock market crash, and was instrumental in revising trading procedures on the NYSE after the market meltdown. Byrne graduated from Princeton University and received his JD from Fordham Law School.
