Program on Immigration
and Democracy

Programs and Research

By drawing on the talent and expertise of faculty in many different departments and disciplines, focusing attention on how immigrants integrate into local communities, and addressing major policy challenges faced by state and local government, the Program on Immigration and Democracy serves as an important resource to the people of New Jersey and the region. We grapple with some of the most difficult issues of our time, trying to bring clarity where there may be confusion, consensus where there may be division, and solutions where there may be intractable problems.

We have identified major policy research domainsand are also posting selected relevant reports and news of interest. A summary by Nicholas V. Montalto of the 12th Annual International Metropolis Conference (Metropolis 2008) held in Bonn, Germany in October 2008 is available here.

We also serve as a communication hub on immigration matters for the Rutgers community, as well as for the larger community. Our Rutgers Migration Seminar brings together faculty and students from different departments and Rutgers campuses to share research strategies and findings.  Our Public Education Programs create strong and productive relationships between Rutgers faculty and students, public officials, community leaders, and the general public.
