Research Interests

My research interests are in the operation, management, and design of urban transportation systems.  I want to make these systems more efficient and sustainable so as to maintain and improve the quality of peoples’ lives.  My experience spans the fields of traffic operations, systems analysis, and economic modeling.

Personal Bio

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.  Originally from Boulder, Colorado, I hold a Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.  I also hold a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  My research has focused on understanding how transportation systems relate to the structure of the cities they serve.  I have been recognized as the University of California Transportation Center’s Outstanding Student of the Year for 2010-2011, an Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor in 2010, and a 2010 Eno Fellow.
