I work in the areas of wetland ecology, ecosystems ecology, and urban ecology, focussing on plant-soil interactions, but also working on a wide range of related aspects of plant and soil ecology. My current research includes studies of the interactions of exotic invasive plants and forest soils, several studies of community diversity in wetlands, wetland nitrogen and carbon cycling, and studies of urban ecosystems. A more detailed description of current research topics, and the students working on these projects, can be found here.
I teach courses on wetland ecology, ecosystems ecology and global change, invasion ecology, and I co-teach our general ecology course and field methods course. Descriptions of these courses and syllabi can be found here.
I serve on several federal and state advisory committees involving water management, wetlands, and invasive species. Click here for a description of these committees and links to their websites.
