The Meeting (translated from the Catalan La
cita)
Translated by John London.
A man engages in five separate dialogues in five different scenes.
Each person
seems to constitute a random encounter with him, but then emotional
and business connections emerge. A final scene is the climax to a
wide-ranging metaphysical
search. This is a mysterious, beautifully structured play, with
imaginative
verbal experiments.
Set: 5 different settings with scope for suggesting atmospheres
ranging from a
park to a subway station.
Cast: 2 women; 4 men.
Productions: Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, Scotland (1999); broadcast on BBC Radio 3, 17 October 1999.
Published in Lluïsa Cunillé and David Greig, The
Meeting and The Speculator
(London: Methuen, 1999).
