Drama in 2 acts.  Alfredo, a middle aged financier, is in conflict with both his past and the threats of rapid cultural change and disruption in contemporary Western society.  Scenically the play is challenging, employing Buero's signature device, the immersion effect, to bring the audience into closer identity with a character through depiction of inner reality.  Extensive use of musical motifs.
