Early Divergences

Black can transpose to the Two Knights Defense on his third move by 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6 3.d4 Nc6 4.Nf3, leaving room for several divergences from the Perreux Variation. The main alternatives to 4....exd4 are considered below:

ED3) 4....d6

These alternative lines are generally inferior, but 4....d6 (a variation of the Hungarian Defense) is worth some consideration as it can be difficult for White to convert his advantage to a win.
