The accompanying chart provides an analysis of  the presidential vote results in 2000. Each bar represents the net percentage gain for Gore or Bush for the listed policy position or personal trait. Bars to the left,  in red, show gains for Bush; bars to the right, in blue, show gains for Gore. The data are drawn from the national exit poll, and  presented in Table 6.5 of my chapter on the presidential election in The Election of 2000. The calculations are explained in note 37, on p. 153.
