History Of ISI And Our Purpose Statement
In the 1950's an increasing number of
international students were coming to study in the United States. At
that time, universities were ill equipped to address the specific
challenges facing international students as they came to the United
States and tried to adapt to a new culture.
Many international students struggled to relate
to America's culture. They felt lonely and isolated, away from family
and
friends for the first time. Most did not even have the opportunity to
have
an American friend or enjoy the hospitality of an American home. This
resulted
in the founding of International Students Incorporated (ISI), in 1953,
as a Christian non-profit organization.
Together with the local community,
International Students Incorporated exists to help meet the needs of
international students by befriending them, helping them adjust to life
in America, serving their needs, and sharing God's love with them.
All international students are welcome at any
ISI event regardless of their religious faiths or practices. All
religious practices are respected.
