Assignment 3: Group Web Assignment

For this assignment, you will (1) make a website to complement a science research article of your mutual choosing and (2) give a brief presentation to the class on the functioning and value of your site.

As with the sixth-grade lecture assignment, the article you select will need to be a research report by scientists (not a news story or popular science article).

The site will need to translate key aspects of the original research into a succinct, accessible, and easy to follow language and format.

In addition to text, the site will need to use images, graphs, and/or diagrams to clarify and present the material.

The site should both (1) summarize the scientific findings and (2) supply context or background for the non-expert reader's benefit.

The Website

  1. Decide on a topic –
  2. Find/choose a source article. Again, it needs to be a hard-science research article like this one and NOT a news story or science piece for a more general audience like this one or this one or this one.
  3. Independently research topic – finding content, images
  4. Divide work – each of you will make one page.
  5. Make pages
  6. Swap and revise pages
  7. Share files (don't forget the images): the complete group site should be on each of your eden accounts

The Presentation

  1. Give a short (10-minute) presentation on your site –
  2. Link and save source for pages onto a laptop; present from laptop in class.

I'll update this over the next few days.
