Course Goals

This course will provide students with experience in

  • evaluating developmental research designs
  • collecting and coding data
  • designing experimental and observation research studies
  • writing research reports
  • Through laboratory demonstrations, exercises, and written assignments, students will also participate in an in-depth study of topics in infant and child development including prenatal development, perception, motor development, attention, cognition, intelligence, language, emotions, play, and peer interactions.

    Evaluation

Students will complete a number of in-class and homework assignments, including writing research reports in APA style. Students can earn up to 150 points for these assignments; final grades will be assigned as follows:

    135-150 points A
    130-135 points B+
    120-129 points B
    115-119 points C+
    105-114 points C
    90-104 points D
Students will be given opportunities to revise some lab reports and can earn additional points for improved work (i.e., the higher score will be used to determine the student's grade). Unless otherwise indicated, all assignments are due the following week.

    Absences

Attendance at all lab classes is mandatory to complete the assignments. Students may not be able to make up work if they miss a lab class.
