Many alumnae and interested friends sponsor Douglass students through the Douglass Alumnae Extern Program at their place of work. The Extern Program has been bringing students together with alumnae and other professionals during semester breaks for more than 20 years. The program gives students an inside look at possible future careers and the advisability of specific graduate programs. Among many companies that have joined the list of those offering externship opportunities are CBS News in New York City, Nabisco Foods, Merrill Lynch, McCall's magazine, Dean Witter Financial Services, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck & Co., Prudential Insurance, Hoffman-LaRoche, and Seventeen magazine. One of the best ways to secure a full-time job, internship, or engineering co-op is to participate in the Rutgers On-Campus Recruiting Program known as " KnightTRAK ." Each year over 500 employers visit the Rutgers University Career and Interview Center to recruit students for full-time jobs following graduation . . . and another 100 employers to recruit students for internships. You conduct all aspects of the pre-interviewing process from the Internet: putting your resume online, reviewing employer job descriptions on a weekly basis, submitting your resume to the employers of your choice, seeing if you have been selected for interviews, and scheduling your interviews. |

This union of the two psychologically-oriented organizations on campus, The Psychological Society of Rutgers and Rutgers Psi Chi , frequently holds information sessions, seminars and panel talks on helping Rutgers undergraduates become the type of professional or psychologist they might want to become. Guest speakers include Rutgers professors, graduate students, professional working psychologists and guest professors from other universities. Various issues in the field of psychology also covered. The PsychSociety Announcements page holds highlights from a previous seminar on I/O psychology. |

You may want to undertake your own research project during your undergraduate years, I/O-related or otherwise. Students are eligible for an Honors in Psychology Project if they are psychology majors, seniors, have at least 3.4 cumulative GPA in courses counting toward the major , and at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA overall. |

The Henry Rutgers Scholars Project is another outlet for conducting your own research. To qualify, you must be entering your senior year at Rutgers College and have a cumulative average of 3.4 (in the major and overall) at the second semester of your junior year. The Henry Rutgers Scholars Project consists of 12 credits, six of which normally count toward satisfaction of the major and six toward electives. Prior completion of at least 18 credits within the major is required. The student enrolls in the course during the registration period. It is listed under Arts & Sciences (12:090:497-498) in the Schedule of Classes. |
