    General Information

Rutgers Libraries Resources on Women and Gender

Resources on women and gender are available throughout Rutgers University Libraries. However, Douglass Library, [click here for map] on the Douglass Campus is the best place to start your research. The majority of bibliographic access tools in hard copy and cd-rom, periodicals devoted to women and gender, and a substantial range of other material [click here for Collection Development Policy] are housed in this building. If you need general help getting started with your research, the most effective way to do that is to walk in to the reference desk during our its hours. You may also telephone Douglass Library at 908-932-9407 and request an appointment with one of the librarians.

Through this site, you may also request library purchases for women's studies, and search the Rutgers' online catalogs and indexes.

Jane Sloan is the collection development librarian for women's studies, and as such is responsible for building and maintaining the women's studies collections throughout the Rutgers University Library System. Most of the library selectors [click here for list of selectors or Collection Development Policy] work in some degree to acquire material in women and gender in all disciplines, in all the libraries, on all Rutgers' campuses.

Most new women's studies books in English enter our system as soon as they are published and distributed. We have a searchable online system INNOPAC to inform you of materials that have been purchased but not yet cataloged. Please let us know of any other material you think the library system should purchase. Suggestions in any format are most welcome. Include all the information you are able to about the source (such as author, title, publisher, year), and also why you want the materials (teaching a class, working on a dissertation, system needs more than one copy). General comments about the strengths and weaknesses of the collections are also welcome. During this academic year, 1996/97, Jane Sloan will be on leave. Lill Maman will be handling purchases and requests and you can email her at maman@rci.rutgers.edu.
