EDDIE KONCZAL: England 2004

Eddie & Laura at Blenheim Palace, 04-Apr-2004

My wife Laura and I visited England from March 23 to April 7, 2004.  It was our fourth trip to England together, and in many ways, the best.  We visited the site of the Norman Conquest of 1066, explored the streets of Oxford,  saw Dame Judi Dench perform in Shakespeare's "All's Well that Ends Well" in London, spent a week in a self-catering house, dined in pubs and tea rooms, and participated in two "Quiz Nights" - among many other things!

Also, this was the first time we visited England with a digital camera.  Since we spent most of our time in Rye, East Sussex, most of the pictures were taken there.  Click on one of the below links to view the relevant photo album:

Digital Photo Albums:

Rye Photo Tour - For this photo album, I used the town tour suggested by "Adams' Rye Guide" (1997).  The building descriptions come from this guide.

Rye  - Other pictures of interest from Rye.

Pevensey Castle - The first castle built by William the Conqueror upon invading England in 1066.

Blenheim Palace - Magnificent palace built in 1704 by Queen Anne for the First Duke of Marlborough, and also the birthplace of Winston Churchill.

Burford - One of the most beautiful Cotswold villages.

Links to some of the places we stayed in or visited:

"This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England...."
-John of Gaunt, Richard II (II.i.40-50) - William Shakespeare
