The Great Designer Blues

Well, they say that it all started just six thousand years ago.

There was nothing here nor there nor anyplace to go.

Some Great Designer had a plan, he had a perfect scheme.

Not necessarily God, they claim, but we know who they mean.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.

Well that Great Designer set to work, he worked with all his might.

Made some light and called it day then called the darkness night.

He made the seas and earth and sun with rhythm and with rhyme.

Sort of makes you wonder though where heíd been through all time.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.

Well then he made the animals, he made them one by one.

Made birds and cows and dinosaurs, some head lice just for fun.

These were all just practice, he made Adam then made Eve.

He made her nearly perfect, then he taught her to deceive.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.

Well the people and the animals went forth to multiply.

But the Great Designer made a flood so nearly all would die.

But he was great and he was good and he had mercy too.

Of course he didnít kill them all-- he saved them two by two.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.

Well he cursed us with disease and plague but then he gave us hope.

He gave us hands and brains enough to build the microscope.

He let us learn to measure time and see what makes us tick.

Too bad he never told us all that knowledge was a trick.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.

Now theyíve got true believers, theyíre the ones who passed the test.

Theyíre the ones whoíll all be saved and we are all the rest.

With Jews and Muslims, scientists and liberals left behind,

Makes you wonder why itís called Intelligent Design.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.

Well they walked through the wilderness and even through the sea,

Saying they loved everybody, yes, even you and me.

If we say that weíve been saved weíll live forevermore.

If we donít weíll go to Hell and they will go to war.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.

Well they say the only source for truth is in the Holy Book.

Theyíre traveling paths of righteousness wherever you might look.

Donít bother them with data or boggle them with facts

Itís hard to have a global view when your earth is flat.

So come on all you sinners, come and take the pledge!

Walk the Great Designerís earth, but donít go near the edge.
