The Religious Rain Paintings, 1
The intense religious experiences I was having in this period produced the following series of paintings, called the religious rain series. Despite the fluidity of the surface, the viewer can see that there is still the concern with the compacted surface. This painting is called "The Cathedral". In some sense, it is supposed to remind one of Monet's cathedral paintings. However, whereas Monet's work is a study of light and sensation in the external world, this painting expresses a profoundly religious experience, in which the very substance, out of which one is psychologically structured, becomes both compacted and smeared with one's own inwardness.
