This castle was near our hotel in Strove, near Monterrigione, north of Siena.


San Gimignano was nearby, to the north.


Louise and Tom climbed to the top of the Duomo's dome
in Florence, and took this picture looking down on Giotto's Campanile.


This famous tower in Lucca has oak trees growing on top -- the trees are hundreds of years old.

This is from a post card -- in side St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice, these are the famous "spandrels." I had to see them because I had read the famous article about Evolution by Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Lewontin. Magnificent...
