 About Us:

The Nontraditional Career Resource Center is a program funded by the New Jersey Department of Education, and is housed at the Center for Women and Work at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Our mission is to bridge the education and workforce development communities to increase awareness and opportunities for 7th through 12th grade students interested in nontraditional careers. We achieve this objective through a three-pronged approach:

  • Building partnerships and collaborations amongst the New Jersey education and workforce development communities.
  • Promoting nontraditional careers.
  • Identifying and publicizing model programs.

To this end, we have developed several programs and services:

An Advisory Committee made up of high ranking members of the New Jersey education and workforce development communities.

Comprehensive website which includes resources for students, parents, and teachers, and research related to gender equity and nontraditional careers.

Interactive Career Assessment games for 7th through 12th grade students to be developed over the next year and placed on the web.

Programs for New Jersey middle and high school students, including "Spring Break on the Job" and "Nontraditional Careers Week at Rutgers University".

A Speaker's Bureau of trainers and presenters with expertise in career development and/or gender equity in education.

The Nontraditional Career Resource Center is looking for people willing to serve as mentors Become a Mentor . Ask a Mentor questions can be submitted to preapproved mentors who will respond within five business days.
