Workshop
Description:
The Workshop is designed to provide participants with an introduction
to applied behavior analysis and management strategies as they
pertain to individuals with developmental disabilities. The skills
required to identify and understand behavior in a systematic and
comprehensive manner are highlighted throughout this training.
The workshop also focuses on the many other variables that may
impact on staff person/parent's ability to assess behavior. These
include morale, burnout, and preconceived attitudes that individuals
may have about person with a developmental disability. Due to
the fact that behavioral knowledge does not guarantee one's ability
to practice behavioral skills, the workshop promotes hands-on
experiences. Videotapes analysis, role-play and paper and pencil
exercises are among the techniques employed to better ensure behavioral
competence. Extensive participant-presenter interaction is encouraged
throughout as an additional method of not only ensuring participant
competence, but also the relevance of the training material to
the habilitation environment. It should be emphasized that this
workshop is intended to be basic in nature and is only designed
to assist staff members in becoming effective participants in
the interdisciplinary team. This program is not to be construed
as a certificate-granting program.
The workshop is designed for presentation to direct care, supervisory,
and behavior staff serving individuals with a developmental disability.
