Workshop Description:
This presentation will highlight the behavior assessment strategies
employed by Project NSTM. Since most of the Project's work is
conducted in the individual's natural setting (i.e., natural home,
group home, etc.) unique behavioral assessment challenges have
often been present. Overcoming these challenges, in order to yield
meaningful information with which to construct intervention programming,
has represented a hallmark of this project. NSTM's assessment
is based on a multi-factor model. In an effort to demonstrate
the importance of considering all factors before making therapeutic
decisions, case material will be presented in which each factor,
as well as its interactions, will be presented. Lastly, participants
will be exposed to problem-solving model with which to enhance
clinical decision making. Examples of behavioral assessment and
intervention programming from the nearly 25-year history of the
project will be employed.
Goal:
The goal is to have the audience leave with both a conceptual
and practical understanding of how to integrate systematic problem
solving with multi-factor assessment.
