Departmental Information

DESCRIPTION

The Office of Institutional Research and Academic Planning is responsible for overseeing university-wide academic planning activities and for conducting a comprehensive program of educational research and institutional self-study. The office serves as the research arm of the central administration and reports to the Vice President for Institutional Research and Planning.

The Office of Institutional Research and Academic Planning (OIRAP) conducts research and policy analyses to inform university decision-making, long-range planning, and to provide public accountability. OIRAP often provides assistance to other academic and administrative offices in the design and administration of studies on student, faculty and administrative issues that are central to the University's tripartite mission of teaching, research and service. The office furnishes information and data required by the federal and State governments and agencies, produces analyses and reports for internal and external audiences, and has played a role in major University initiatives such as the Quality and Communication Improvement (QCI) . The office is also responsible for the coordination and implementation of the university-wide strategic plan, as well as working with faculty and other administrators in the development, preparation and follow-through of proposals for new academic degree programs, research centers, and institutional units. Liaison activities are coordinated through this office with respect to the regional accreditation agency (Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools) and include coordination of self-studies and other reports, such as periodic review reports required by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Additional university liaison activities are carried out with respect to the New Jersey Presidents' Council and the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education. OIRAP also coordinates the university administration of basic skills testing and placement, and the development of periodic reports on remedial program effectiveness. In addition, the office provides staffing to various university committees, such as CSPAD, a peer review faculty committee that evaluates all Rutgers' academic programs on a cyclical basis.

The Office of Institutional Research and Academic Planning is located at Geology Hall on the College Avenue Campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Click here for a listing of the staff.
