SUMMARY

Throughout the period of protracted underfunding of higher education in New Jersey which began in the late eighties, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey has compared very favorably to its national peer institutions in terms of cost effectiveness. Rutgers successfully addressed the challenge of restricted resources by implementing a series of innovative cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality. Through the Strategic Resource and Opportunity Analysis, $4 million in administrative cost savings was reallocated to priority academic projects. By increasing collaboration with other institutions, Rutgers leverages its resources to offer cutting-edge research programs. Through administrative restructuring and new approaches to the delivery of services, Rutgers serves its student population better than ever before. Continued implementation of the strategic plan will further enhance the university's academic quality even as costs are contained.
