Fall 2005 Common Lecture ScheduleThe Common Lectures are held four times during the semester and outline some of the main issues discussed in the rest of the course. Schedule of Common Lecture HoursFor Lectures II-IV, each section will have an assigned seating area. For sections with Wednesday 3rd period or Friday 3rd period (12:35-1:55) class meetings: Lecture I: Course Introduction: September 7 or 9, 2005 - Hickman 138 Speakers: Prof. Lee Kerkhof (MARINE & COASTAL SCIENCES) introduces the objectives of the course. Cook’s new Executive Dean, Robert Goodman, discusses his vision for the future of Cook College. Lecture II: Land Use: September 28 or 30, 2005 - Hickman 138 Film: “The Highlands Rediscovered” Speaker: Prof. Richard Lathrop (ECOLOGY, EVOLUTION & NATURAL RESOURCES) discusses college’s role in The Highlands Development Act of 2004. Lecture III: Population/Energy/Resources: October 12 or 14, 2005 - Hickman 138 Speaker: Prof. Timothy Casey (ECOLOGY, EVOLUTION & NATURAL RESOURCES) discusses current and future resource use. Lecture IV: The Current and Future Food System: October 26 or 28, 2005 - Hickman 138 Speaker: A representative of the USDA and others discuss alternatives to feeding ourselves – and the world. |
