Peer Counseling

There is a peer counseling group at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. It is staffed primarily by undergraduate students at the University who have received training in how to be active listeners, handle crises, and make referrals. Their services are designed to be used once or twice to talk through something bothering you. For ongoing counseling, or more serious problems, contact the Rutgers College Counseling Center or one of the other psychological services at Rutgers. The peer counseling group is:

  • Scarlet Listeners Peer Counseling and Referral Service.
  • 732-247-5555.
Third floor of Bishop House on the College Avenue Campus. Hours are usually Sunday through Thursday 4 - 12 p.m..

There are also many other ways to be of service to either the University or others in the community. The CASE (Citizenship and Service Education) program coordinates a list of such opportunities, some available as accredited Rutgers courses. Many students also enjoy being Health Advocates, peer health educators in the areas of stress, nutrition, sexuality and other areas.
