Postdoctoral Fellowships

Although receiving a fellowship is not a requirement for joining the lab, applying for a fellowship is. Postdoctoral researchers wishing to join the lab will be required to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship. If there is no current funding for a postdoctoral researcher, persons with fellowships are self supported and may join the lab at any time:

  • The National Science Foundation has fellowships for biology that include the program: Intersections of Biology and Mathematical and Physical Sciences and Engineering, which is essentially Biomedical Engineering. It is open to US citizens, US nationals, and permanent residents and is generally due during early November.
  • The National Institute of Health’s F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship is is a 1-3 year fellowship open to postdoctoral researchers within 5 years of their PhD. It is open to US citizens, US nationals, and permanent residents and is due April 8, August 8, or December 8.
  • The National Institute of Health’s Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) is is a 5 year fellowship open to exceptional advanced postdoctoral researchers within 5 years of their PhD. It is a transitional award and provides 2 years of funding at the postdoctoral level, followed by 3 years of funding at the Assistant Professor level. It is open to US citizens, US nationals, and permanent residents and is due February 12, June 12, or October 12.
  • The National Space Biomedical Research Institute’s First Award Program is is a 2 year fellowship open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents or persons with pre-existing visas obtained through their sponsoring institutions that permit postdoctoral training for the project's duration. It supports biomedical research in a broad range of areas.
