Lost/Replacement ID Cards

Lost RUconnection cards will only be returned or replaced if you are currently registered or employed, and present a form of government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license or passport to a RUconnection location.

Name/Status Change
Your RUconnection card will be reissued due to a legal name change or a change in your status (change of schools or class year, etc.), at no charge upon returning the existing most current, Ruconnection card. Visit your appropriate RUconnection card office to exchange your old card for an updated one. Information changes must be in effect in the registrar system at the time of issuance. All replacement cards are issued with existing system information and photos.

Damaged Cards
You are expected to take reasonable care in the use and storage of your ID card. RUconnection cards worn or damaged due to normal use are reprinted and replaced free of charge upon the presentation of ALL pieces of the old card. Assessment of damage will be at the sole discretion of the RUconnection card office manager. If damage appears intentional, or if all pieces are not surrendered, you will be required to pay the replacement fee.

The punching of holes in RUconnection cards is prohibited. The reissuing of such cards is subject to the replacement fee.

Lost or Stolen Cards
First, you may want to suspend your card so that no one else can access your accounts or services. You can do so via the web at http://ruexpress.rutgers.edu. You can reactivate your card via the same web page should you find it before having it replaced.

Second, check your Rutgers email. A notification will be sent to your main Rutgers email account if your RUconnection card is found and returned to one of our offices. You must come to the office that is holding your card with a government-issued form of photo ID such as a driver's license or passport to retrieve it. There is no fee to retrieve your card.

If your RUconnection card was stolen as the result of a violent crime, you can contact Crime Victim Services at 732/932-1181 to make an appointment to speak with a counselor. In some cases, they will arrange to have the replacement fee waived. Please note that we cannot refund the fee for replacement cards already issued.

Otherwise, please follow these procedures:

RUconnection card replacement with fee payment by cash, check or credit card
Visit a University Cashier's office to pay the fee for a replacement RUconnection card.  Bring your paid receipt (all copies) to your appropriate RUconnection card office to have your replacement card made while you wait. Cashier's Receipts must be redeemed within 7 days. Fee payments are non-refundable.

RUconnection card Replacement with Fee Payment by cash
You can pay the replacement fee via cash in the RUconnection card office in University Human Resourcess on Cook campus.  The RU Express/Board Plan Office in Records Hall can only accept payment by RU Express. Your replacement card will be made while you wait. Please note that these offices can not accept payment in coins or bills larger than $20. Also, it is not possible to split the fee between Cash and RU Express. Fee payments are non-refundable.

Individuals who pay a replacement fee for a new ID card may request to take a new photo, providing that they also present a form of government issued photo ID. Otherwise, the RUconnection card will be reissued with the existing photo on file.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS - PLEASE READ
Declined checks or credit card transactions are subject to an additional fee and must be reconciled by cash payment. All access privileges will be suspended until payment is made.

Replacement cards will not be issued without photo identification and receipt of payment. If your wallet was lost or stolen, you may need to replace other forms of ID, such as your driver's license, before being able to get a replacement RUconnection card. All previously issued RUconnection cards will be rendered inactive and will not be reactivated under any circumstances. Reissuing lost replacement cards requires an additional replacement fee.

Please note a government issued photo ID is required

Acceptable Government IDs

The type of RUconnection card issued is dependent on your primary role in the university. You are permitted to have only one active RUconnection card at any time.

RUconnection cards are non-transferable, and remain the property of Rutgers University regardless of any replacement fees paid. We reserve the right to confiscate and destroy all fraudulently used, or inactive cards. Reactivation or reissue of confiscated ID cards are subject to the current ID replacement fee. You may also be subject to institutional sanctions or criminal penalties.

Falsifying information in order to obtain an RUconnection card is identity fraud and may subject you to prosecution to the full extent of the law.
