Experimental Boudins

Experimentally formed boudins in layered plasticenes of differing competence. The gray layer is more competent than the alternating bands of black and yellow layers. At this stage of the experiment, the competent layer has ruptured, and the less competent material has flowed into the gaps. Note the weak development of fish-mouth forms in the necked regions of the boudins. Photo credit: John Ramsay.
