Pressure Solution Cleavage

Pressure-solution cleavage in siltstone from south Devon, United Kingdom. The cleavage is oriented vertically (up-down). Note that the white vein has been dissolved across the solution seams (cleavage planes) and is locally buckled (indicating that the vein is less soluble than the original siltstone). Maximum compression was subhorizontal. Photo credit: Rob Knipe. Image from website: http://earth.leeds.ac.uk/learnstructure/index.htm
